Musikang Halo-Halo: Starting to Mix is a project sponsored by the San Francisco Arts Commission Grant. The project explores musician Theresa Calpotura’s mixed Filipina-American heritage by combining stories from her 100-year-old grandmother's life, Filipino folktales, traditional instruments from the Philippines, electronics, and spoken word narrative.
Amihan K. de Leon illustrated the visuals for the performance at the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center’s Festival, “Reimagining Horizons" as part of the 26th United States of Asian America Festival (USAAF), as well as illustrating and designing the printed Musikang Halo-Halo book.

My reimagination of the three titular characters in the short story, The Vampyre, published in 1819 by John William Polidori.
Circe is a powerful sorceress in Greek mythology known for transforming men into animals with enchanted potions and herbs. I imagined how she would look like in each stage of her life-- from childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood. I wanted to capture a change in demeanor that might signify a painful experience somewhere along the way, which may have caused her to cast defensive spells on men who came to her island, Aeaea.

Welcome to my portfolio!
I've acquired transferable skills from a One Year International Filmmaking Program in Paris at École Supérieure de Réalisation Audiovisuelle (ESRA), an internship in Manila at major Filipino comics publisher Komiket, a One Year Intensive Comics Certificate Program with Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW), and my current role in New York City's performing arts industry at Carnegie Hall. My global experience has allowed me to combine my passion for storytelling with my strengths in visual art.
I identify as a woodland creature who – through my official correspondence with the tooth fairy in childhood – nurtured a passion for diverse forms of art and stories that evoke a sense of childlike wonder. I enjoy drawing inspiration from mythology and folktales. I hope to imbue whimsy, wildness, and sparkle in my storytelling across mediums so people can experience the same magic that shaped me.
